Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel, you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible – at least 6 weeks before you travel – as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription, and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Children and Young People’s Services (CYPS)

The Children and Young People’s Service provides a single service to all children and young people aged 0-18 years living in South Tyneside and Sunderland who present with mental health difficulties. This includes children and young people who may have learning difficulties and those living in a range of difficult and challenging circumstances.

The Service is Able to Provide:

  • Assessment, diagnosis and intervention on a range of mental health issues.
  • Intensive response and home-based treatment for those children and young people whose mental health is causing significant concern.
  • An intensive Eating Disorder Service to support children and young people on the eating disorder pathway who are at risk of an inpatient admission.
  • A comprehensive transition support package to those young people who are approaching their 18th birthday and may need continuing support as adults.
  • 24 hour access to support via a single point of access.
  • Training, consultation, support and advice to front line staff working in targeted services for children.

How to get Referred


Referrals will be accepted from any professional working with child, young person or their family and self referrals can also be made. Referrals are accepted in written form by letter or fax. Referrals can also be made on the telephone.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges.

Examples include the following:

  • Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
  • Insurance claim forms
  • Passport signing
  • Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
  • Private sick notes
  • Vaccination certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
 

Social Prescribing

The Social Prescribing Link Worker Team work on behalf of all GP Practices in Sunderland to provide non‐medical support and interventions. We can support with:

  • Money worries
  • Being more physically active
  • Connecting with others
  • Mental & physical wellbeing
  • Managing long term conditions
  • Weight management
  • Preventing future ill health
  • Finding local support groups specific to a health condition or
  • personalised goal
